We refer to the diversity of museums that you will find in this piece of the Mexican Caribbean, where you can have a closer look at the ancient Mayan culture, or be surprised by the originality of some of them. Giving you the opportunity to see these places could give you a great surprise.
MUSA: an underwater experience
Cancun offers one of the most original museums on the planet: the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) in Cancun and Isla Mujeres. What is its originality? Well, to get to know the 500 sculptures by the artist Jason de Caires Taylor and other Mexican artists, it is necessary to go deep into the sea and swim among its 16 exhibition rooms.
MUSA was born from the idea of merging art with the conservation of the environment. The sculptures were made with sustainable materials, which serve to support the marine fauna of the area, increasing the probability of the settlement of various species and, consequently, the repopulation of the reef.
X-ray of Mexican art
Although the Riviera Maya shows the Mayan culture in all its splendor in different spaces, it also offers a place that transports you to the past so you can get to know the other cultures settled in Mexico. We are talking about the Museum La Casa de Arte Popular in Xcaret.
This enclosure has a collection of pieces of Mexican popular art from all the states of the country. Its rooms are decorated with themes such as national symbols, music and dance, masks, Mexican cuisine, Mexican toys, religious articles, among others.
It should be noted that the Museum is installed in a reproduction of an old henequen hacienda, very popular constructions in the Yucatan Peninsula from the 19th century, which tries to faithfully recreate the furniture of that time, giving you a better experience.
Sanctuary of the Riviera Maya
Due to its objective of preserving and conserving the flora and fauna of the Riviera Maya, the Bel Air Animal Park is known as a sanctuary where you can connect with nature, caring for, enjoying and learning from it at the same time.
The Bel Air Park is located in Playa del Carmen and in it you can find more than 350 specimens including birds, reptile mammals, farm animals and other endemic species. It also has other activities such as the water park or the route of the estuary in kayaks.
However, and perhaps the most representative thing is how this place seeks that its visitors can connect with nature, in an environment of respect and education based on environmental values, since the park carefully cares for and protects the inhabitants of the place, who in Most of them arrived through civil Associations or Entities that rescued them and took them to the sanctuary for their conservation.
